AmeriCamp has been a whirlwind adventure!

Hello… It’s been a while and AmeriCamp has been a whirlwind adventure! My 1st session campers left on the 19th and 2nd session arrived on the 23rd.

When I applied for AmeriCamp I knew I was going to have an awesome time with my campers. However, I did not realise how attached I was going to get after spending every single day with them for nearly a month. Did I cry when they left? Yes, I shed many tears – I was an emotional reck! I had gotten so close to my girls, they were like family. We had a friendship and as we hugged so tight before they drove away I realised just how much I was going to miss them.

The night before they left, we had all pulled our mattresses into the middle of the room and had a massive sleepover. They were so excited and tired and we all snuggled up and enjoyed our last night together. One camper fell asleep holding my hand, I almost wanted to cry. I miss them sooooo much! It’s weird how in only three and a half weeks 11 strangers turned into 11 friends!

Now my new girls are here and the initial meeting was strange. You forget how awkward it was when you first meet, I was so used to the familiarity of knowing everyone. So yes, at first it was awkward but a few days in and we were rolling around on the floor laughing too hard. I’ve done that a lot in both sessions and it pretty much sums up how these girls are. They are crazy and amazing and sooooo funny! I don’t know if I have ever laughed harder than I have with these girls. I still miss the first session so much and I know by the end of this session I will be crying again when these girls leave.

If ever you are wondering about how hard it is to work at AmeriCamp, please be known that it is such hard work… But those girls will love you so hard and everything will be worth it!

Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind.
